A Partnership to Promote Safety and Crime Reduction

The Community Based Crime Reduction (CBCR) Initiative, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance Programs (BJA), partners the Center with the primary law enforcement agencies in Robeson County, the Lumberton Police Department and the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

This 4-year initiative establishes a Cross-Sector Crime Reduction Partnership of several key agencies in Robeson County, including the Health Department, Rape Crisis Center, UNC Pembroke, Office of the Chief District Court Judge, and the NC Department of Public Safety just to name a few Partnership member agencies.

The Partnership examines local data to identify specific types of crime, locates “hot spots” where identified crimes are prevalent, resulting in the creation of a logic model of crime drivers in the local area. A thorough review of crime reduction strategies is conducted to design a Crime Reduction Action Plan, develop a budget and timeline for implementation.

The Action Plan is submitted to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for feedback and approval. After BJA approval, all partners will put the Crime Reduction Action Plan into place, implement, and evaluation the Initiative. In April of 2020, the Bureau of Justice Assistance approved our special conditions of the award, which allowed the Center to begin the outreach and recruitment efforts for the formation of the Cross-Sector Partnership.
